"More than art schools, books and a lifetime of visiting museums, it was my encounter with computers which opened new avenues of creative exploration. This medium has also created a bridge with my lifelong fascination with Nature, the ultimate artist. As daily life is inundated with visual bombardment, I create landscapes and images that prompt us to pause and ask questions."

Martine Jore was born and raised in France where she earned an MA in French Literature from the Sorbonne. Besides France, she has also lived in North Africa and the United States. She recently moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico from Cape Cod, and travels every year to Europe.

Martine has made a life-long practice of working with stone carving, metal sculpture, assemblage, printmaking and paper collages. She was first a student of Philip Pavia in New York City, and continued her study of drawing and sculpture at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts (CT) and The Carving Studio (VT) and studied computer graphics at Rhode Island School of Design (RI). In addition to her own artwork, Martine has held several jobs promoting arts and international cultural exchanges in Washington DC, New York City and Paris. She holds a BA in linguistics and philosophy from the Sorbonne University and an MA in French literature from University of Caen, France.

Mac computers and Epson inkjet printers now constitute Martine’s primary art tools. Starting from photos and scans, she uses various application software to create imaginary multi-layered worlds. The composite images reference a range of experiments with color, pattern, symbol, and meaning.

Martine Jore’s works, sculptures and prints have been shown since 1990 in several venues in New England (Cape Cod Art Museum, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, members, juried, group and solo shows) and are held in private collections on both sides of the Atlantic.
